No big bulletin this week, as you may have noticed, because I’ve been in Mexico. I did want to flag one thing though, which is the just announced production of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? starring Gillian Anderson and Billy Crudup, coming to sohoplace in the autumn. It starts previews on September 21, running to December 19.
The last time I saw Gillian Anderson on stage was as Blanche Dubois in A Streetcar Named Desire at the Young Vic over a decade ago, and she was utterly, utterly mesmerising. I would give my eye teeth to see her again, and Martha, in Edward Albee’s brutal 1962 play about a cracked and complex middle-aged marriage, is another visceral role that I think she’ll do brilliantly. I can’t bloody wait.
Tickets are on sale now, here. I would snap them up if I were you.
