Normal service resumes next week...
But here are some lovely paintings you can see right now

It’s the final deadline for my book on Friday, so please accept my apologies but this week I have been hibernating again, furiously writing picture captions. I did manage to pop into a new gallery though, Interval, in Clerkenwell, which brings together contemporary artists with historic works that speak to their practice and their aesthetic.
It’s really great, they have such good taste and such a good eye. Below are some images of their beautiful current show, Lustre: Sebastián Espejo & Pierre Bonnard, which puts work by the Chilean painter alongside few choice items by the French fin de siècle artist. There’s also a couple of gorgeous Japanese prints (one particularly intriguing Hokkusai and a lovely Hiroshige) for good measure, because Bonnard was particularly inspired by those.
The space is really lovely, the people who run it, father-son team David and Jacob Gryn, are a delight, and Espejo’s paintings are stunning. Dreamy but precise, luminous but understated. I want all of them (I cannot have them). The show runs to March 28.
Back to normal service next week.
